LDSL Girls U14s Triumph in Gaynor Cup Final – The LDSL Girls U14s team etched their names into history by clinching the prestigious Gaynor Cup Final in a thrilling encounter. The match showcased their skill, determination, and teamwork as they faced a formidable opponent in the DDSL girls. The game culminated in a nerve-wracking late 2nd penalty kick, where R. Nolan emerged as the hero of the hour. With calm composure and unwavering focus, Nolan delivered the decisive penalty, sealing the victory and sparking jubilant celebrations among her teammates and District supporters. This remarkable achievement not only highlights their collective talent but also underscores the bright future of these inspiring young athletes. Congratulations, LDSL Girls U14s 2025 Gaynor Cup Champions! We would like to thank everyone involved.


Thursday 5th June – Day Four Result – Cup Semi-Final. LDSL 1 – 1 Roscommon, (Lily-Rose Noonan) LDSL 4-3 win on pens.

Day Four saw LDSL pitted against a strong Roscommon side, with a place in the Gaynor Cup Final 2025 at stake. This game had everything, end to end, goal line excitement, energetic play from both sides, equalizers, penalties, and bravery. LDSL took the lead on minute 11′ through Lily-Rose Noonan. Tiring from the exertions of the week in the second half, Roscommon came into the game more and equalized from a long range well placed shot in the 42′ minute. This left this cliff hanger in the balance resulting on the final whistle been blown and the game level at 1-a piece. The dreaded penalties led to a 4-3 win for Limerick, thus sending the crowds gathered into joyous celebrations. The final will be on Friday 6th June, at 3pm on pitch one versus Dublin District (DDSL). Its been an amazing journey of a week 5 games, 5 wins and reaching the final of the main cup competition. Please get out to UL tomorrow afternoon and support the squad and coaches in the final. Reaching the Gaynor cup final, from our seed pot in the draw – its been a dream week. Wow – Here’s to one more 60 minutes, of heart, grit and desire and dreams being made.


Wednesday 4th June- Day Three Result – Cup Qtr Final. LDSL 1 – 0 Waterford (R. Nolan 54′).

Day Three found the squad and coaches entering unchartered territory, reaching the Gaynor Cup Quarter Final (in only LDSL’s third year with girls football in Gaynor cup) versus a very talented Waterford side. The game itself was a tenacious affair, with both sides sharing possession, attacking and defending throughout. Limerick girls have shown a theme of grit, desire and togetherness in the tournament to date and this was on show in this game in abundance. The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute with a through ball not being dealt with allowing our awaiting no. 10 R. Nolan to pounce and slot home what proved to be the winner. Jubilant scenes followed in the home crowd who again came out in their droves to support the group. Representing their city and surrounds, clubs, family and friends these girls have captured the imagination of the local support, and we urge you all again to come show encouragement and cheer them on tomorrow, Day Four Thursday in the Cup Semi Final v Roscommon at 2pm pitch 1. Come out and support them please, they’re giving their all. Well done on the journey so far this week, we’re all so proud of you all.



Tuesday 3rd June – Day Two Results Group 2 – LDSL Top Group 2 & reach Cup Qtr. Final

Rd. 2 – LDSL 2 – 0 Longford

Day two saw the squad faced with another two games versus Longford and Limerick Desmond, resulting in two further wins and leaving the girls finish top of the table in Group 2. (match commentary below in Facebook). The draw for the Cup quarter final took place at 9.30pm Tuesday evening live on SFAI. The LDSL have been placed against another tough opposition in Waterford in the Cup competition quarter final at 4pm today Wed. 4th June. We would hope to have the continuing support of the local football family for the game on pitch 1 this afternoon.


Monday 2nd. June

Day One Result Group 2

Rd. 1 – Galway 0 – 2 LDSL (R. Nolan 11′; Z. McNamara 52′)

On day one of the Gaynor Cup, LDSL achieved an excellent and hard fought 2-0 victory against Galway, with goals scored by R. Nolan and Z. McNamara. This result positions the team at the top of Group 2 after the first day. The players demonstrated a strong performance, effectively managing Galway’s pressure while maintaining a solid defensive structure. The atmosphere was energetic with wonderful support at the game from the Limerick crowd on display. The girls displayed real grit and teamwork throughout the game. Congratulations to the entire squad and coaches for beginning the competition on a positive note. It is important to try to maintain this momentum in the upcoming matches on Tuesday – Rd. 2 v Longford and Rd. 3 v Limerick Desmond. All support welcomed on Day Two, Tuesday 3rd June in UL.


The Gaynor Cup 2025 in association football for u14 girls squads from all over the island of Ireland will be held in the University of Limerick from Monday June 2nd to Friday June 6th 2025. The LDSL have been drawn in group 2 with opposition from Galway, Limerick Desmond & Longford. The first game versus Galway is Monday 2nd June on pitch 3 at 4pm ko. Tuesday offers 2 further group games: 10am ko v Longford on pitch 2 and again @ 4pm versus Limerick Desmond on pitch 6. We urge the football public in Limerick to get out and give your support & encouragement for the squad and coaches out in UL over the week, as they represent Limerick city and district.
